Timothy and Topanga the Patagonian Maras came to us from another facility that was downsizing and looking for placement for them. We took the pair as permanent residents in 2024. They are sweet but shy little animals, and their favorite food is romaine lettuce.
Kira is one of four red foxes that came from a horrific fur farm in Iowa. After Save-A-Fox rescue bought out and shut down this massive fur farm, it was a national effort to find homes for over 475 foxes. Our sanctuary took in four red foxes as permanent residents.
Big Mac the alligator was captured as a nuisance alligator on a highway in Gainsville, after being struck by a vehicle. A compassionate alligator trapper brought him to the sanctuary to spend the rest of his life instead of euthanizing him. Big Mac is 10 feet, and 2 inches long.
Bella the alligator was removed as a nuisance alligator after she was found walking through a parking lot. A compassionate alligator trapper brought her to the sanctuary instead of euthanizing her. Bella was our first alligator at the sanctuary, and is a big girl at exactly 8 feet long!
Dino is our 11'4" alligator that came to our sanctuary very sick and practically unresponsive. After hanging out in the shallow end of a boat ramp, he was removed as a nuisance alligator and was brought to us by a trapper. Dino is receiving medical care currently and seems to be responding well to treatment.
Chloe is our 27 year old resident Ducorps cockatoo. She was surrendered to us in early 2022. Chloe spent the last few years before coming to us living in a garage. She had a poor diet and started to pluck our her feathers. Chloe has some behavioral issues that we have been working on, and is thriving outdoors in her aviary.
Yue is one of four red foxes that came from a horrific fur farm in Iowa. Yue is a "snowglow" red fox, and she would have been turned into a pelt, which is sadly all too common in the US. Yue does not see very well, due to her light eyes and inbreeding, but every day she feels more confident and her personality shines more and more.
Jet the fennec fox was surrendered in 2023. Jet does not like new people and can be aggressive, which was part of the reason why he came to us. Unfortunately he did not have an ideal diet before coming to us, and does have chronic issues because of it. Jet's favorite foods are figs, superworms and rabbit!
Jumanji the Sulcata tortoise came to us in 2023 from Daytona Beach, after his owner was evicted and needed a forever home for him. Jumanji is 19 years old and is estimated at over 200lbs! He lives in a 2,500 square foot habitat with big trees, and lots of yummy plants to graze on throughout the day. His favorite things to eat are cactus pads and hibiscus flowers!
Asami the skunk was originally surrendered to Florida Skunk Rescue before coming to us at Bellowing Acres! She is a very friendly skunk who loves to spend her time digging for insects and taking naps in her favorite log. It's hard to believe that she was originally surrendered for biting!
Lily the South American coatimundi joined our sanctuary in 2023 after she showed up in somebody's front yard. We do not know anything about her history, but we do know that she was either an escaped or released pet. When we arrived to bring her back to the sanctuary, multiple nails were grown all the way into her paws. Lily is a hands-off

We do not know anything about her history, but we do know that she was either an escaped or released pet. When we arrived to bring her back to the sanctuary, multiple nails were grown all the way into her paws. Lily is a hands-off animal and prefers to spend time with her best friend Lola, instead of interacting with people.
Petrie is a red billed hornbill that joined us in 2022, after he was spotted flying around South Florida for 2 weeks! This species is unfortunately commonly imported from Africa, and because Petrie does not like people, we assume he escaped from a big shipment of wild hornbills after being imported. We were able to track him, lure him into somebody's house with food, and catch him to bring him to safety!
Tadpole is a juvenile alligator that was sent to our sanctuary by a trapper after he saw her missing tail! Tadpole was originally called in as a nuisance alligator after chasing people's fishing lines! Although she would likely not survive to adulthood in the wild, we are hoping she lives a long happy life at the sanctuary!
Kit-Kat came to us from Wildwood Animal Rescue after being attacked by a dog. Kit-Kat's front leg was so severely broken after the attack that the only options were to amputate her leg or to euthanize her. After Wildwood A.R. got her the surgery she needed, we took on full financial responsibility for her, covering the cost of the amputation and taking her on as a permanent resident.

Our 4 prairie dogs live outside in an enclosure where they are able to dig and make burrows.

After the only homes being offered to her were to eventually eat her, her desperate mom reached out to us and Julie joined our other two pigs, Daisy and Petunia. Julie is a fan favorite with her loud happy squeals and her floppy ears!

Rocky is a 12 year old leopard tortoise who spent the first few years in his life in a fish tank with improper lighting and husbandry. Because of the improper care he received, Rocky has an extremely deformed shell. We love him just he way he is and he fits right into our sanctuary.
