Little Dude is our 16 year old African crested porcupine! Little Dude was an educational animal at Jungle Island in Miami, and was sent to our sanctuary in 2024 to live out a peaceful retirement. His favorite things are corn, and splashing in his pool! His favorite foods are corn on the cob and sweet potatoes.
Prickles is a prehensile tailed porcupine, native to South America, but common in the exotic pet trade. She joined us in 2025, after being found walking around South Florida! She was transferred to Palm Beach Parrot Rescue before coming to Bellowing Acres for permanent sanctuary. Nobody ever came forward for her, which likely means the person did not have the proper permit to own her. Her favorite foods are browse biscuits and corn!
Kira is one of four red foxes that came from a horrific fur farm in Iowa. After Save-A-Fox rescue bought out and shut down this massive fur farm, it was a national effort to find homes for over 475 foxes. Our sanctuary took in four red foxes as permanent residents. Kira is one of these foxes. She lives with one of our other fur farm foxes, Yue.
Timothy and Topanga the Patagonian Maras came to us from a facility in South Florida that was downsizing and looking for permanent placement for them. They were surrendered to our sanctuary in 2024. They are sweet but very shy animals, and like to spend most of their time lounging in the shade.
Yue is one of four red foxes that came from a horrific fur farm in Iowa. Yue is a "snowglow" red fox, and she would have been turned into a pelt, which is sadly all too common in the US. Yue does not see very well, due to her light eyes and inbreeding, but every day she feels more confident and her personality comes through. Yue lives with our other fur farm fox, Kira.
Bucky and Teddy Swims the beavers joined our sanctuary in 2025. Both were brought to a wildlife rehabilitation center in South Carolina, and ultimately deemed unable to survive in the wild. Bucky's entire family was killed and he was shot as a baby, leaving him with a permanent back leg injury. Teddy Swims was found as a baby in somebody's yard, dehydrated and skinny which was most likely the outcome of somebody improperly relocating him. Our beavers have a large lagoon with a waterfall to swim, and they love dragging branches into their den. Both are shy and nocturnal, but at night they have a blast rearranging their enclosure and swimming together.
Jet the fennec fox was surrendered in early 2023. Jet does not like new people and can be aggressive, which was part of the reason why he came to us! We received a second fennec fox named Sierra from Save-A-Fox Rescue in 2024, and her and Jet are best friends.
Jumanji the Sulcata tortoise came to us in 2023 from Daytona Beach, after his owner was evicted and needed a forever home for him. Jumanji is 19 years old and is estimated at over 200lbs! He lives in a 2,500 square foot habitat with big trees, and lots of yummy plants to graze on throughout the day. His favorite things to eat are cactus pads and hibiscus flowers. He is a big tortoise with an even bigger personality!
Asami the skunk was originally surrendered to another rescue before joining us at Bellowing Acres! She is a very friendly skunk who loves to spend her time digging for insects and taking naps in her favorite log. It's hard to believe that she was originally surrendered for biting! Her favorite snacks are sweet bell peppers and live superworms!
Lily the South American coatimundi joined our sanctuary in 2023 after she showed up in somebody's front yard. We do not know anything about her history, but we do know that she was either an escaped or released pet. When we arrived to bring her back to the sanctuary, multiple nails were grown all the way into her paws. Lily is a hands-off animal and prefers to spend time with her best friend Lola, instead of interacting with people. Her favorite food is bananas!
Although he may look scary, Jawbreaker the alligator snapping turtle is a gentle giant. He joined us in 2025 from Swamp Girl Rescue and Rehab after bring hit be a car. After DNA testing, it was discovered that he is not an alligator snapping turtle native to Florida, and actually came from Louisiana, making him non-releasable in Florida. His favorite food is tilapia and aquatic vegetation.
Kit-Kat came to us from Wildwood Animal Rescue after being attacked by a dog. Kit-Kat's front leg was so severely broken after the attack that the only options were to amputate her leg or to euthanize her. After Wildwood A.R. got her the surgery she needed, we took on full financial responsibility for her, covering the cost of the amputation and taking her on as a permanent resident.
Olaf the umbrella cockatoo joined our sanctuary in late 2022 after his mom of 30 years could no longer care for him. Olaf now lives outside in a beautiful aviary, and loves to chew on wooden toys and crack open walnuts! Olaf was diagnosed with heart disease in January of 2024, and is currently on daily medications and doing great! He loves to give kisses and he will even ask you to give him crackers!

Poppy lives with 2 other prairie dogs named Cheeky and Coco. They have an outdoor enclosure where they are able to dig and make burrows. They are often seen cuddling together!
Caloosa the barred owl joined us from the Hobe Sound Nature Center in 2024. Caloosa was hit by a car in the wild over 10 years ago, and has a permanent wing injury which does not allow her to be able to be released back into the wild. Caloosa also receives daily drops for glaucoma in her right eye. She spends most of the day sleeping, but at night you can hear her hooting to wild owls, and can even find her on top of a small tree inside of her enclosure!
Maleficent is a 4 1/2 year old Asian Water Monitor. Her human Dad raised her from 4 months old and had plans to build her an outdoor enclosure, but after having issues with the neighbors, he did not think it was safe for her and made the difficult decision to surrender her to the sanctuary in 2025. She is a smart and curious girl, but wants things on HER terms and is not afraid to tail whip you to put you in your place. Her favorite foods are chicken drumsticks and tilapia.
